Description
How did air hockey form?
Air hockey was invented by a team of Brunswick billiards staff from 1969 to 1972. In 1969, three Brunswick engineers – Phil Crossman, Bob Kenrick and Brad Baldwin – began work on creating a game using a friction-free surface. The project stagnated for several years until it was focused by Bob Lemieux, who then focused on running an abstract version of ice hockey with a thin disk, two strikes, and slot-like targets equipped with photo-doctors. It was then decided that the game might appeal to a larger market and air hockey be marketed and sold to the public. Original patents for Crossman, Kendrick and Lemieux. The air table was recorded before the Brunswick project, albeit for irrelevant purposes.
In any case, the game was an immediate economic success, and in the mid-1970s there was a great deal of interest in tournament play. In early 1973, players in Houston formed the Houston Airhake Association, and soon after, the Texas Aerial Players’ Association codified the rules and promoted the sport through local competitions at Houston Carnbis, Damian, and Houston University pubs. Run.
To ensure uniform standards of play with the highest competitive quality, the USA Air Table Hockey Association (USAA) was formed in 1975 by J. Phillip “Phil” Arnold, mostly as an official penal body.
